Empowering Communities: Sindy Chown’s Journey as a CHW

For Sindy Chown, being a Community Health Worker (CHW) at Centro Latino NH isn’t just a job—it’s a calling. Driven by a deep desire to support and empower her community, Sindy has dedicated herself to ensuring that individuals, especially those in the Latino community, have access to the resources and support they need to thrive.
A Passion for Helping Others
Sindy’s journey to becoming a CHW was fueled by a simple yet powerful motivation: to support her community and help individuals reach their full potential. She understands the challenges people face and is committed to being a trusted advocate who connects them with the right resources to navigate life’s difficulties.
A Day in the Life of a CHW
No two days are the same for Sindy. Her work involves:
📌 Meeting with community organizations to strengthen partnerships and resources.
📌 Reaching out to clients to assess their needs and offer guidance.
📌 Calling organizations to advocate for support on behalf of Latino community members.
Every interaction is an opportunity to make a difference, whether it’s guiding someone through a difficult time or ensuring they receive the assistance they need.
The Most Rewarding Part of the Job
For Sindy, the greatest reward is empowering her clients to take control of their lives and reach their personal goals. Seeing someone grow in confidence and stability because of the support she’s provided reinforces the importance of her work as a CHW.
A Moment That Made an Impact
One experience that stands out to Sindy is when she helped a new mother who had just moved into an empty apartment. With no furniture, no services, and a newborn baby to care for, the young mother was sleeping on the floor in the cold. Determined to help, Sindy took immediate action—she reached out to organizations, created an action plan, and worked tirelessly to connect the mother with essential resources. Thanks to her advocacy, the mother received the support she desperately needed, transforming a dire situation into one of hope and stability.
