Meet Lisa, a dedicated CHW at Mid-State Health Center, whose passion for helping others shines through in every aspect of her work!

Lisa’s journey as a CHW is rooted in her calling to help others. She believes everyone should have access to essential resources, especially during challenging times. “When individuals are working to improve their lives or chase their dreams, it’s important for someone to be there to support them throughout their journey,” Lisa shares.

Her days are filled with diverse activities: facilitating workshops on Chronic Disease Self-Management, assisting individuals at three different offices, meeting families at the Whole Village Family Resource Center and RISE Recovery Services, and conducting home visits. At the core of her work is helping people access resources and build self-confidence.

Lisa finds immense fulfillment in her role. “The most rewarding aspect is seeing the pieces come together for families and individuals and helping them meet the needs that are most important to them,” she explains. She takes a great joy in witnessing the transformation as those she assists gain confidence and become more self-sufficient.

Lisa shares a touching story of helping a newly single mom secure vital resources like food, housing, and vehicle repairs. “Witnessing her journey, from the initial stages of applications to everything falling into place, was truly remarkable. Seeing her self-confidence grow throughout the process was incredibly rewarding and inspiring.

For those considering this rewarding career, Lisa offers wise advice: “I encourage you to pursue this path wholeheartedly! However, always keep in mind our role is to aid rather than foster dependence. Enabling others ultimately services no one, and it can take a toll on your mental and emotional well-being over time. It’s about empowering individuals to navigate their challenges and grow stronger from their experiences.”

Lisa’s work embodies the essence of community health – supporting, empowering, and inspiring positive change. Thank you, Lisa, for your dedication to the well-being of your community!
